Glossary
What the terms, acronyms and initialisms in gexbot mean, and the page that explains each one.
Metrics
- GEX (Gamma Exposure)also: gamma exposure, net gamma
- The aggregate gamma of the options positioning on a ticker, by strike. gexbot shows it three ways: by open interest and by naive volume in Classic, and by classified volume in State and Orderflow. Read more
- Net GEXalso: net GEX, net gamma exposure, net_gex_vol, net_gex_oi
- The sum of gamma exposure across the whole chain, positive or negative. It is an Orderflow subplot and the net_gex_vol and net_gex_oi fields in the API. Read more
- DEX (Delta Exposure)also: delta exposure, net delta
- The aggregate delta of the options positioning on a ticker, by strike. Positive DEX reads as net bullish delta and negative DEX as net bearish delta. Read more
- OI (Open Interest)also: open interest, GEX by OI, OI-based
- The number of option contracts open at each strike, tallied daily by the OCC. Classic levels by OI update once a day, before the open; they do not change during the session. Read more
- Classified volumealso: classified GEX, classified orderflow, trade classification, non-naive GEX, classified
- Intraday option volume that gexbot classifies trade by trade from its effect on the volatility surface, rather than from exchange flow tags. State and Orderflow levels are built from it and move during the session. Classic GEX by Volume is naive volume, not classified. Read more
- Naive GEXalso: Classic GEX model, naive gamma, naive, GEX by volume, volume GEX
- The Classic model: every call is treated as positive gamma and every put as negative gamma, weighted by open interest or by volume. It needs no trade classification, which is why Classic is the simplest view. Classic GEX by Volume is naive volume and updates during the session. Read more
- DTE (days to expiration)also: 0DTE, 0 DTE, 1DTE, 1 DTE, latest expiry, next expiry, full (90d), zero / one / full, zero DTE, next-day
- How many calendar days remain until an option expires. In gexbot, "latest" (zero in the API) is the nearest expiration, which is today on tickers with daily expiries; "next" (one) is the expiration after it; "full" aggregates the expirations within 90 calendar days. Read more
- IV (implied volatility)also: implied volatility, ATM IV, IV_weighted
- The volatility priced into an option. gexbot uses a smoothed at-the-money IV for the expected-move bands and the per-strike IV for the skew dots on the Options Profile. Read more
- Vanna (-Vanna Ex)also: -vanna ex, vanna ex, vanna exposure
- How an option's delta changes as implied volatility changes. gexbot uses it to model the delta impact of implied volatility collapsing to zero into expiration, so the State -Vanna Ex ladder is signed negative and read in $MM until expiry. Read more
- Charm (Charm Ex)also: charm ex, charm exposure
- How an option's delta changes as time passes. The State Charm Ex ladder shows the delta impact of time decay by strike, in $MM per hour. Read more
- Higher-order Greeksalso: vomma, vera, zomma, speed, color, ultima
- Second- and third-order sensitivities beyond delta and gamma: vomma, vanna, charm, vera, zomma, speed, color and ultima. The metrics pages define each one, and Research renders several on demand. Read more
- Convexityalso: long gamma, short gamma, positive convexity, negative convexity, cyan bars, purple bars, long convexity, short convexity, net long optionality, net short optionality
- The gamma sign of the classified positioning at a strike. Positive convexity (long gamma, cyan) is low liquidity that dampens moves: price tends to stall, bounce or reject there. Negative convexity (short gamma, purple) is deep liquidity: in the usual falling-volatility regime price travels through it and accelerates, while in a rising-volatility regime, and into the 0DTE close, it acts as a magnet where price stalls. The Convexity Ladder in State plots it by strike. Read more
Levels and profiles
- Zero Gammaalso: gamma flip, zerogamma, ZG, flip level, gamma inflection
- The equilibrium boundary of the options complex, interpolated from GEX by volume; the Classic side panel also shows an OI-based Zero Gamma. Every platform study draws it as the flip line, and the Research package labels it Gamma Flip. Read more
- Major Positive Gammaalso: Major Call, call wall, MPos, major positive, largest positive GEX strike
- The strike with the largest positive gamma exposure. Available by open interest and by volume. The platform studies and the API also call it Major Call; other tools call the same strike the call wall. Read more
- Major Negative Gammaalso: Major Put, put wall, MNeg, major negative, largest negative GEX strike
- The strike with the largest negative gamma exposure. Available by open interest and by volume. The platform studies and the API also call it Major Put; other tools call the same strike the put wall. Read more
- Historical majorsalso: history dots, dots on the chart, dots trailing the price, cloud of dots, golden dots, scatter points, Zero Gamma History, Major Positive History, Major Negative History
- The path the Zero Gamma, Major Positive and Major Negative levels took across the session, drawn behind the price as a line or as scatter points. The dots that trail the price on a Classic chart are these, in scatter mode. Read more
- Lookback dotsalso: lookback, prior GEX dots, GEX prior dots
- Small dots inside each GEX bar that show the strike's exposure 1, 5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes earlier, so a bar's direction of change is visible. They are not the historical majors. Read more
- GEX Profilealso: State GEX Profile, classified GEX profile
- The State view of gamma exposure by strike built from classified volume, with the Major Positive and Major Negative levels (Major Call and Major Put) the classification implies. It is the State counterpart of the Classic chart. Read more
- Convexity Ladderalso: Long/Short Gamma, Gamma Profile, Major Long Gamma, Major Short Gamma, long/short gamma profile
- The State view of classified convexity by strike: cyan bars for positive convexity (long gamma), purple bars for negative convexity (short gamma). It shows where price tends to stall, bounce or accelerate. The platform studies call this view the Gamma Profile, and its two extremes the Major Long Gamma and Major Short Gamma levels. Read more
- DEX Ladder
- The State view of classified delta exposure by strike: net bullish delta on one side, net bearish delta on the other. Read more
- Options Profilealso: OP, expected move, skew dots, IV skew dots, volatility skew dots
- The State view of classified volume by strike, net long on the right and net short on the left, switchable to delta, gamma, vanna or charm. It also draws the expected-move bands from the at-the-money IV and the red and green skew dots that show each strike's implied volatility. It has no open interest; open interest is a Classic value. - The State -Vanna Ex and Charm Ex ladders: the delta impact by strike of implied volatility collapsing into expiration ($MM until expiry) and of time decay ($MM per hour). Read more
Products
- Classicalso: gexbot Classic, Classic package
- The entry package: gamma exposure by open interest and by volume under the naive model, the Zero Gamma and Major levels, the historical majors, and the platform studies. Levels by OI update before the open; levels by volume update during the session. Every package includes REST API access. Read more
- Statealso: gexbot State, State package
- The package built on trade classification: the GEX Profile, Convexity Ladder, DEX Ladder, Options Profile and the -Vanna and Charm ladders, all from classified intraday volume. It includes Classic. Read more
- Orderflowalso: gexbot Orderflow, Order Flow, Orderflow Live
- The package of time-based charts built on classified volume: the per-second change in gamma, delta and convexity exposure (GEX, DEX and Convexity Orderflow), the net exposures, and the aggregate DEX tally that restarts at 09:30 ET. It measures how the whole chain shifts each second, not single orders. It includes State and Classic. Read more
- Quantalso: gexbot Quant, Quant package, WebSocket package, developer package
- The top package: WebSocket streaming, the rolling 90-day REST history at 1-second resolution, bulk historical downloads, per-expiry feeds and Quant-only tickers. Every package includes REST API access; Quant is the package for people who build their own tooling. It includes Orderflow, State and Classic. Read more
- Research (gbR)also: gexbot Research, gbR, research add-on, !gex commands, Gamma Walls, gamma wall
- The add-on that renders charts and tables on demand from a command palette, in Discord and in the web app, for any US optionable ticker. It works from open interest and volume snapshots, not from State or Orderflow classification, and it labels the levels Gamma Flip, Call Wall and Put Wall (the Gamma Walls). Read more
Market hours
- RTH (Regular Trading Hours)also: regular session, cash session, market hours, 9:30 to 4:00, NYSE hours
- The NYSE cash session, 09:30 to 16:00 ET on trading days. Spot prices, trade classification and the live streams run only during it. Outside it the charts hold the last session's snapshot, except the Classic OI levels, which refresh pre-market. Read more
- Overnight session (Globex)also: Globex, GTH, extended trading hours (ETH), after hours, overnight
- Trading outside the NYSE cash session. gexbot does not classify overnight trades: the daily tally starts at the 09:30 ET cash open, because overnight liquidity is too thin to classify with confidence. Many subscribers outside the US use the 1 DTE levels, from Classic or from State classified volume, for the Globex session. Before the open only the Classic OI levels change. Read more
- Pre-market OI updatealso: pre-market, premarket, premarket run, 8:00 update, 8:30 update, daily OI refresh, morning update
- The pre-market run starts at about 08:00 ET and the Classic levels by open interest are in place by 08:30 ET. They then hold for the session. Read more
Futures conversion
- Futures Targetalso: futures conversion, conversion factor, converted futures, synthetic futures, Auto-Convert, futures premium, Futures Premium (Additive), basis offset, product code
- The setting that maps index or ETF option levels onto a futures contract: Ticker names the options symbol (SPX, NDX, GLD ...) and Futures Target names the future by product code (ES, NQ, GC ...). gexbot computes the futures premium between them and refreshes it every 10 to 15 minutes during the session; the studies refresh the conversion at startup, at 9:30 and 9:32 ET, and every 15 minutes after that. Enter the product code, never a contract month. Read more
- Ticker (Symbol)also: Symbol, ticker field, options symbol
- The field in a platform study that names the options symbol the levels come from. NinjaTrader calls it Symbol. It is independent of the chart's own instrument: SPX levels can be shown on an ES chart with Futures Target set to ES. Read more
- Contract monthalso: NQU6, ESZ6, ES 09-26, GCZ6, front month, rollover, roll
- A specific futures expiry, written as product plus month code and year, for example NQU6 or ES 09-26. gexbot follows the active front-month contract and rolls when the next contract's volume exceeds it. Futures Target takes the product code (NQ), not the contract month. Read more
- Conversion pairsalso: SPX to ES, NDX to NQ, SPY to ES, QQQ to NQ, GLD to GC, supported pairs
- Each options symbol converts only to the future listed against it: SPX or SPY to ES, NDX or QQQ to NQ, RUT or IWM to RTY, DIA to YM, GLD to GC, SLV to SI, USO to CL. SPX does not convert to NQ; for an NQ chart use NDX or QQQ. Read more
- ES_SPX and NQ_NDXalso: ES_SPX, NQ_NDX, es future toggle, converted feed
- The original names of the SPX-to-ES and NDX-to-NQ converted feeds. They still work as API tickers. On the website they are no longer separate tickers: open SPX or NDX and click the future half of the toggle under the ticker box. In a platform study set Ticker (Symbol) to SPX or NDX and Futures Target to ES or NQ, never NQ_NDX. Read more

- A supported desktop platform. gexbot ships as a 64-bit Windows study DLL that draws live data only; it holds no history and has no ARM64 build. Read more

- A supported desktop platform. The gexbot indicator imports as a NinjaScript zip, fetches live data during the cash session and names the options symbol field Symbol. Read more

- A supported desktop platform. The gexbot study is a Java package placed in the Extensions folder and fetches live data during the cash session. Read more

- A supported desktop platform. Two builds exist: the standard build and the AMP build for Quantower installed through AMP Futures. Each installs the gexbot indicator. Read more
- Bookmapalso: Bookmap add-on, Bookmap marketplace
- A supported desktop platform. The gexbot add-on is a jar installed from the Bookmap Marketplace and needs an active gexbot subscription for data. Read more
- TradingView Desktop Bridgealso: TradingView, TV, TradingView integration, desktop bridge
- An experimental companion app that injects gexbot overlays into TradingView Desktop through the Chrome DevTools Protocol. TradingView does not accept external options data feeds natively. Read more
- DLL (study file)also: DLL file, study DLL, indicator DLL, the plugin, jar file
- The compiled study file a platform loads: a Windows DLL for Sierra Chart, ATAS and Quantower, a jar for MotiveWave and Bookmap, a NinjaScript zip for NinjaTrader. Sierra Chart, Quantower and MotiveWave files go in a folder; ATAS, NinjaTrader and Bookmap import the file through the platform's own dialog. Read more
API
- api.gex.botalso: api.gexbot.com, app.gexbot.com, ws.gex.bot, the API host
- api.gex.bot is the REST API host the documentation uses; api.gexbot.com is the host the web app's API reference shows for the v1 routes and still answers. ws.gex.bot serves the WebSocket hubs. Requests to app.gexbot.com are the web app's own and count against the web app's quotas, not the API's. Read more
- API keyalso: custom key, integration key, gexbot_custom_, Bearer token, the key, gbR key
- The credential sent as Authorization: Bearer on every authenticated API call. gexbot issues keys on the API page of the account portal: an integration key per platform plugin, a custom key (prefix gexbot_custom_) for your own code, and a separate gbR key for Research. The same key keeps working after a plan change. Read more
- Rate limit (quota)also: quota, daily limit, 429, Rate Limit Exceeded, throttled
- Each quota bucket has a daily allowance, which resets at midnight ET, and a monthly allowance. Exceeding one returns HTTP 429 and sends a Rate Limit Exceeded email that names the bucket. The website quotas are separate from the API quota. Support can reset a quota; the numeric limits are not published. Read more
- Package and category valuesalso: package value, {PACKAGE}, {CATEGORY}, aggregation period
- The lower-case package name an API path or a WebSocket group carries: classic, state or orderflow. Quant is a subscription tier, not a package value. In /v2/hist paths and WebSocket groups the category follows the package, for example gex_zero or gamma_one; in the chart routes the aggregation period (full, zero, one) follows it instead. Read more
- Negotiatealso: POST /v2/negotiate, negotiation, client token
- The API call that returns a signed WebSocket URL for each hub your groups need. The URL expires after 15 minutes if unused; a live connection stays open. Every reconnect starts with a new negotiate, and a new negotiate closes that hub's existing connection for the same key, so run one client per key. Needs a Quant subscription. Read more
- Hub and groupalso: WebSocket hub, group, v2_classic, v2_orderflow, spot group
- A hub is one WebSocket connection, for example v2_classic or v2_orderflow. A group is one feed inside a hub, named ticker, package and category; add the matching spot group for each ticker you stream. Read more
- EOD reportalso: end-of-day report, daily report, EOD
- The end-of-day ZIP of a ticker's levels and per-strike data for your package, published after 5:00 PM ET. Every active subscription includes it, and its contents match the package you hold. Read more
- Historical archivealso: 90-day history, rolling history, 1-year archive, bulk download, ZIP bundle, backfill
- Past intraday data at 1-second resolution. The web app shows 90 days of history with any active subscription; Quant reads the rolling 90 days through the REST API; a 1-year archive can be purchased and downloaded in the portal, and reading it through the API needs Quant. Read more
